The Android L was first announced by Head of Android Sundar Pichai last June 25 at the Google I/O conference, which brought a bunch of new platform features and changes.
While it’s already available for developer previews back several months ago before its official unveiling, Android Lollipop upgrade is going to be beyond mobile. The new Android 5.0 brings seamless communication and synchronization between Android Lollipop-powered devices from smartwatches, tablets to smartphones, TVs and even app-driven cars, but still the priority of the platform will be on mobile phone features.
Android Lollipop showcases a new, more flat look called as a Material Design. It focuses on the system’s fluid animation, making it more intuitive and smooth from shadow, ripple to 3D tiles and so on. Alongside an intuitive vibrancy and updated Roboto font, the home, back buttons and multi-tasking window button as well overhauled into a cleaner, consistent look.
Moreover, Android’s Notification panel is getting a big change, which prioritize only the more relevant information and alerts about your most often used apps. The enhanced alert panel which is smarter than ever, is now merged with the lockscreen and as well present notifications as cards according to your interaction.
Google re-engineered the Android platform into a sleeker, more faster and efficient mobile OS. The Android Lollipop which is bundled with essential Google apps will be dependent to one another and with ART, now the default runtime for Android Lollipop, all apps will benefit to it right away without any adjustments made. The Android Runtime, which is more efficient than Dalvik and works well with ARM, x86 and MIPS; supports 32-bit and 64-bit architecture, meaning a mobile platform capable of supporting desktop-class graphics.
Other major upgrade to Android is the Project Volta with increased efficiency and the default Battery Saver mode which promises an optimize, more capable and can lengthen battery life. Android L is also going to support TV, as the newly announced Nexus Play, which you can access media contents such as movies, TV shows and even games direct on big screen; and pretty much powered by voice, as the famed Chromecast.
Android 5.0 still features multiple user accounts, as the smart features showcased in LG G3, but this time with a minor update and soon makes its way to other smartphones.
Alongside the announcement of Android Lollipop and Nexus Play, Google’s Android L-powered TV, the search giant also unveiled its latest Nexus mobile devices: the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9.
The Android Lollipop indeed showed off features beyond mobile computing, with the platform developing to something big, smart and innovative ―Google’s most advanced operating system― no doubt it will still top today’s technology trend.
